New Years

This year we have no plans for New Years.
Everyone is either busy , doing their own thing or on holidays.

2012 was a big year
            • 2 good friends weddings
            • Darwin for work
            • Hawaii for Mum's 50th Birthday
            • Our wedding!
            • Fiji for our Honeymoon
            • Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road

So here is the obligatory post about my goals for 2013.
As far as I am concerned 2013 is a clean slate.
There are no holidays planned and definitely no wedding to plan.
I haven't even booked any holidays at work, which means I may not have any this year.

There are things to do though:
        • Work Conference in March where I am presenting a paper
        • 2 friends weddings
        • I was hoping to do some sort of short course/s in cooking and baking. I was also possibly thinking that I may do an Auslan course. Just out of interest.
        • BUY SOME PROPERTY!
        • Minor things include: New hairstyle and colour.
I hope the start of 2013 is everything that you have hoped for.
Also that you are spending it with people that you love.

Red or purple?

I said in my previous post that I need a change.
Some people cut their hair right after their wedding.
I have been growing it for the wedding and now it is quite long.
Insert another wedding photo ;D
The hair is curled and past my shoulders. Straight it is obviously longer
M is quite partial to long haired gals. He whines whenever I mention cutting it off.
In this summer heat it is very often.
He also likes my natural colour.
However I have to do something!
So I am thinking of putting in a rinse or something.
I have been red before.
Something for a slight change will be good.

My mission this week is to look for a rinse that will tide me over until I can think of what I want to do.
So, red or purple? ( subtle purple)

Let me know

First week back

This week was our first week back at work.
Both of us have been feeling the early mornings and actually having to do things like work.

People talk about having a sadness when all the wedding and honeymoon excitement has gone.
I think I have a little of that.

My direction for next year is not really clear.
M and I are aiming to buy a home but really that is one thing

I have thought about studying something. It could either be work related or
something nothing to do with it at all.

I have recently wanted to study sign language. I don't come across having to work with deaf people very often but when I have patients who are deaf or have family who are also deaf I find it very fascinating.

Other possibilities could also be doing short cooking classes to fill up my time.
I usually have something in the pipeline to look forward to.
Obviously for this year it was the wedding and honeymoon.
The year before we went to New Zealand.
A couple of years before that we went to Europe.
Travelling probably won't happen unless it was for work or for a wedding in October.

I also have an urge to cut my hair. At the moment it is at the bottom of my shoulder blades.
I don't want to cut it really short as I don't have the face shape to do it but maybe something different with my fringe or possibly some highlights. . .

I am going to go to bed as this week has caught up with me and I just want to curl up and sleep.

Pro Pics

They arrived!
Our discs with our photos are now in our hot little hands.
Overall I am very happy with them.
All credit goes to Dan Au Photography

I thought I would recap the day in pictures.

I woke up really early (6:30) for the 3rd morning in a row.
I was greeted by bridesmaid T who was dutifully asleep on our sofa bed.
By 8 L, my maid of honour and Christine, M's sister had also arrived along with our hair and make up team.

Our flower girls arrived at 12 as they didn't require a lot of work and it kind of kept them out of our hair until they were needed. They were really well behaved. Having only met each other twice before, they promptly promised to be best friends until 4pm.

My blue shoes. I was kind of concerned about what M's reaction to this colour would be. I absolutely loved them . I had to walk away from Manoloh's in Hawaii for a cool 900 plus tax so these at 80 were a fair substitute and probably the most comfortable heels I have ever worn!

M did not notice my shoes until we got back into the car after the ceremony. He LOVED them! He basically shouted that I had blue shoes! He keeps remarking how much he loved them. Winner!

My Maggie Sottero Zabrina dress
This was also one of the most comfortable dresses to wear. It was sometimes a hassle to try and not step on it and also white dresses attract every colour under the sun. I think at one point my roses rubbed colour onto it. Such is life. I think it was perfect. I love the silhouette!
More of the blue shoes

I gave M some Happy Socks and a wallet which is he was in desperate need of.

Darling Rose Classics. 3x Mark 5 Jaguars including the convertible... it rained so that didn't get used.
Then it was time to go. We thought we had plenty of time. Let's have some more pictures we said. Uh
I was the perfect bride though. I think I was 5 minutes late.

My home made unity candle.
Yup. I'm Katie, he is Matthew.

We were brave soldiers. Running in the rain along the beach. Bonus was there was no one else around

My cheeky cake topper. Our photographer made us recreate it

The night went so quick. We did have a few hiccups. My grandfather tripped over in the courtyard on the way to the photo booth. He hit his head, broke his wrist and cracked some ribs. My grandmother got so stressed about it that she ended up in hospital too. Now the silly duffers are apologising about missing the rest of the reception. This all happened between dinner and dessert so things got postponed for a little bit. The show did go on though once they were off to the hospital. About 10 family members came up to me one after the other to make sure I was OK because I got a little bit upset about it all.

Any who. Back to the good stuff I will leave you with a photo of our first dance. We had dance lessons. 5 of them. Learning the waltz and sort of choreographing some moves so we didn't look like idiots. The only factor that we didn't really properly account for was the trickiness of my dress. After the first lot of spins I half tripped on my dress so I basically got Matt and I to stick to basic waltzes and sways. It was a bit of a shame that we couldn't have done it properly but I would have ended up on the floor.
We did the dip at the end.
I pull funny faces when I dance.

Melbourne

Part 2 of our honeymoon is over.
M and I have had an amazing time.

I am enjoying married life so far. The whole three weeks of it.
Having lived together before the wedding not much has changed.
We are definitely in the honeymoon phase though.
Both of us are being super nice and I love it.

Jet setting

Part 2 of our honeymoon continues tomorrow

Agenda
Friday- Fly to Melbourne. Stay in Southbank. Have dinner as we get in late

Saturday- Pick up our hire car and head down to the great ocean road. Go exploring

Sunday- Find the Twelve (Seven) Apostles

Monday- Come back into the city. Stay at the Hotel Windsor

Tuesday- M's Birthday.  I was going to book somewhere really fancy to have dinner but M has a simple palate and really enjoys  hearty German food. So I have booked a restaurant on Market Ln and M has also said that he would like to see James Bond so I have booked Gold class seats at Crown.

Weds- Shopping.. M likes it more than I do sometimes. He has also put off buying new T shirts and things because he knows about Melbourne Shopping.

We then come home and have a couple of days to finish Christmas shopping and my aim is to send out thankyou cards or at least acquire them. Hopefully our photographer has our disc ready as well by then because I am really wanting to see photos.

See you on the other side

Sneaky Pic

It is done! We are Mr & Mrs.
People don't lie when they say it flies.
And that you will be exhausted at the end.
The most exciting things in life take effort.
It was the best day of my life.

Slightly blurry but that is the back of the dress
and the back of my husband. hehe
Off to Fiji on Tuesday! I can't wait!

Lyrics

I choose songs for lyrics
I'm a sucker for love song dedications.
So I heard this song on the radio the other day.
And despite being anti- one direction I love the lyrics.
I want it played at the reception.

Your hand fits in mine like it's made just for me
but bear this mind it was meant to be
and I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
and it all makes sense to me

i know you've never loved the crinkles by your eyes when you smile,

you've never loved your stomach or your thighs
the dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I'll love them endlessly

I won't let this little things slip out of my mouth

But if I do, it's you, oh it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things

You can't go to bed without a cup of tea

maybe that's the reason that you talk in your sleep
and all those conversations are the secrets that I keep
though it makes no sense to me

I know you've never loved the sound of your voice on tape

you never want to know how much you weigh
you still have to squeeze into your jeans
but you're perfect to me

I won't let this little things slips out of my mouth

But if it's true, it's you, it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things

You never love yourself half as much as I love you

you'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to
if i let you know, I'm here for you
maybe you'll love yourself like I love you oh

I've just let these little things slips out of my mouth

because it's you, oh it's you, it's you they add up to
and I'm in love with you (all these little things)
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
but if it's true, it's you, it's you they add up to
I'm in love with you, and all your little things.

I love the part about talking in your sleep. M and I apparently have conversations while I am half asleep. Last week was about the fact that I needed to get on the bus. M said I was not a fan of those extended buses ( with the accordion middles). Everything that I say in those situations is excluded from the court record.

Progress.and excitement

This morning, M had to leave to go to work. Just before he left and I was still in bed he leaned over and said ' This time in a fortnight we will be married'

At this moment my bridesmaid T is sitting on a sheet on the floor sewing a bustle button into my dress. I woke up today for the first time really excited about it all.

    13 days!

Losing my head and Hens night

I'm usually quite calm about things... on the outside, meanwhile actually screaming in my head.
Today was an exception to that rule.

I got my dress altered. Shortened the length, added sleeves ( which were to be removable through a clip) and a bustle.

I got:
The correct length at the front - TICK
Sleeves which were hand sewn on- Bah Bowww
A wrist tie to only ONE of the 5 layers, the rest of the layers hang free
The Top layer isn't cut as short as the others which makes it look odd
A blood stain where someone who has pricked themselves when sewing on the sleeves.
There is also an unexplained (slight) stain near the hem at the front

So I called her today and lost my head. I never do that. Yelling at an old lady made me feel guilty but then I get mad that I am feeling guilty and all of it comes out of my eyeballs. Luckily it was after I had gotten off the phone. She had offered to come back to get it cleaned but now I think after she hung up on me I have well and truly burnt that bridge.

Poor M has tried to be supportive while not getting too much information about the dress.
My bridesmaid has offered to fix some of it for me which is a real blessing. M is out at his grandparents place to find out the name of their seamstress they trust just in case my bridesmaid can't fix it.  I am hoping she can. She made her own wedding dress so I trust her. With 18 days to go my stress head is on and I want to get rid of it. !!!!

In other news, I had my hens day on Saturday. Firstly L threw me a Kitchen Tea. The idea of a Kitchen Tea to me was you drink tea, champagne, play games and have cake. I never related it to getting presents. I got a whole kitchen load full! We didn't have enough storage as it was and now we have to get a bigger kitchen ... which is FINE BY ME!

We then went to Crinitis in Darling harbour for dinner first, with lots of cocktails, lots of pizza, pasta and other lovely goodies. Followed by some daggy dancing at Retro. T and I went back to my place to find the best man (her husband) asleep at 2am and we , being super tipsy found that unacceptable and dragged him out of bed to have some more drinks with us.  I spent most of yesterday recovering and trying to solve dress problems that T is going to try and fix.

My attire. I stealthly hid the hens night dares when people weren't looking

MMMMM dessert!

We got one of those coffee machines from ALDI with pods.
M and I will enjoy the hot chocolate ones and guests get to have proper coffee

18 days and counting.
Fiji is on the other side!

Problem Solving

Anyone know how to get vellum to wrap around a large tea light candle holder? The kind of ones which are smaller at the bottom than at the top. Any suggestions will be most welcome. This one

Oh and today is 1 year since we became engaged. The day has been pretty good. We went for a drive up to the northern beaches to collect something I won on ebay.

I then proceeded to burn dinner... twice. Sigh. M knew my culinary skills before he proposed.

That is all.

Got my creative on

My ex housemate had her baby shower today. So I made this. I'm moving on from cupcakes so this is a bit dodgy but tasted great

My friends decided it needed a face
