Nerdfest

So, I'm marrying a self confessed nerd. He is most comfortable watching a Lord of the Rings movie, researching different swords used in medieval times, playing computer games for hours on end.

This weekend he dragged me to nerd.. uh I mean Ironfest in Lithgow. We drove 2 hours to this festival that was full of enthused men, women and children dressed in period costume. Period costume or Star wars costumes or Dr Who costumes. I found it all fascinating. I have to say after 2 hours of walking around I got a bit tired ( a bit bored) so I found some chocolate Dutch pancakes and took a seat in the stands while M went and looked around.

I can't get any photos off my phone at the moment. We watched some jousting, some falconing, some 19th century cannon fighting.

The highlight of the day was the food ( for me anyway). 2 hours from Sydney was a stand that comes to my work every Tuesday. The Mexican wrap stand. I had to show M the wonders of the Mexican wrap. Where I work the food is baaad. Hospital cafeteria bad. With only half an hour for lunch , getting down the street and being able to eat anything is a struggle. So when Tuesday comes around we embrace the closeness and yumminess that is the Mexican wrap.

Some other exciting news. Babyfest has hit work. We have three pregnant ladies at work now. The last announcing her pregnancy last week. She was my housemate I just moved away from. It was very unexpected but very exciting at the same time. She bought in her ultrasound today and there is a teeny tiny baby in there. This baby fever has crossed over to me and it's a bit scary. M and I probably won't have kids for a little while yet. Especially when we don't have anywhere for it to be kept yet. However the idea is very appealing and my inner cluckiness has come out. I need a kid to babysit...STAT... so that I can get a dose of reality to fight this condition. . . . . .

It's coming together!!

So, Even thought there is so many things still do in the 7 months(yesterday) to the wedding I have managed to tick a few things off

  1. Dress bought
  2. Cars Booked
  3. Photographer booked
  4. Bought our cake topper
  5. Chosen ( but not ordered) bridesmaids dresses
  6. Chosen Flower girl dresses
  7. Booked hair and make up
  8. Booked night before accommodation.
  9. Reception booked
  10. Booked Church and started planning the ceremony
I want to have one of those 'bride' moments where I step back and appreciate it all and get very excited. There are moments but I can't wait until I have my dress, have my hair and make up trial and soak it all in .

Most of all . I am excited to be married. I have to keep coming back to that fact. I am marrying my best friend , the best man in my life and the future daddy of my babies. That is definitely something to look forward to.

Internets

So, the reason I don't post as much any more since moving home is that my little brother has a internet sucking Mac. Once he gets on there is not a lot of chance of getting things to work. Even when it does for some reason Blogger has a real hard time catching up . It won't even load anything to catch up with other peoples blog. And now I took outfit of the day pics and I cant find my memory card.

I have a versatile blogger award to respond to which I will get to as soon as I can get things to load properly. It is all too hard to post from my phone and I prefer being able to actually use my lap top.

Anywho, on a happier note I got to work on part of M's wedding present today which was very cool. Can't wait until he gets to see it. It will be good to see his reaction ;D. Since M stalks these pages I can't say what it is but I am proud of my sneakiness today.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. I get tomorrow off as my ADO so yay for another long weekend. I have figured I don't have to work a full week until mid may due to public holidays and my ADOs as well as the fact I am going to Darwin for work in a couple of weeks to go to a conference.

Easter

So, Happy Easter! In my family Easter isn't a big celebration. We still get together with my grandmother and have lunch but that is about it. M and I had to split our time between his family and mine. This year we went to his family first for lunch and then to mine. The difference in our families is phenomenal. His family are very quiet. So quiet that there wasn't very much said over lunch. Then there is my family. Loud! One of my aunties is always loud and always the life of the party so that makes our get together very interesting.. without fail :D I can't wait till the wedding where our families actually all meet properly.

The Easter bunny came to our house and left little Easter eggs around the lounge room. The "Easter Bunny" thinks her babies are still 5 but that didn't stop the 25, 23 and 16 year old fighting to find them. We'll always be big kids and ultra competitive with each other.

Any who I spent most of today attempting a DIY for the wedding that I ruled out in the first hour because it took 3 Harry Potter movies to get not even half way.

I got given a Versatile Blogger award today as well so that was exciting. I will post about that tomorrow. I'm tired from all that manufacturing strips of crepe paper into rosettes and sticking it on styrofoam.

I had grand ideas of doing this for table centrepieces. lol

Doing this much took over 4 hours. Estimate another 4 to do the other half that's 8 hours. Multiply that by 10 or more. I don't
even work that much in a fortnight!

Perspective

So,  I went to a good friends wedding on Saturday. It was a sweet ceremony and the reception held at Curzon Hall was amazing.  The whole day made me look forward to our wedding day even more. They had a grand piano being played for most of the first half of the reception which made for a lovely atmosphere.

However, it put something into perspective for me. So much planning goes into saving, executing a wedding and something weird happened that night. After the speeches literally half the guests upped and left. It was barely 9pm. Apparently it was a cultural thing, however out of respect for the couple I would have thought that they would have stayed a little bit longer. If that many people left our reception that early I would be devastated. That said, the couple were on cloud nine and were actually able to spend quite a bit of time with people.

The main lesson I think I have learned is that I am not going to sweat the small stuff about our wedding. The bonboniere are now just going to be Votive holders that double as place cards. I am going to put more effort into the ceremony the WHOLE reason for the day.

On a sweet note M also seems to be very excited and looking forward to our day. We have an appointment to see the priest on Saturday to discuss the ceremony so that will get rolling.
